This workshop is suitable for teachers and practitioners of yoga, keen to enhance their understanding of the Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and develop confidence in transforming theory into action on – and beyond - the mat.
Topics covered on this day inlcude:
* Asanas with attention on the fluctuations of the mind as expounded in Patanjali’s Yoga sutras
* Discussion on how to integrate (Abhyasa) and non-attachment (Vairagya) into the practice and teaching of yoga
* Debate on the cultivation of equanimity in a yoga class/ practice, dealing with the Kleshas & Antarayas
* The various meditation techniques listed by Patanjali
* Sanskrit translations
The day will include discussion, practical posture and pranayama with particular attention to Rechaka and Bahya Kumbhaka, guided meditation and group work.
Other Information
Some background reading on Patanjali before the day would be an advantage but not absolutely essential.
**Wendy Teasdill**
Wendy has been practising yoga for over forty years with a strong Pranayama bias. Having studied extensively with the Iyengar family in India she has always paid attention to the pranic flow in asana, though since pregnancy she now practises and teaches a more fluid approach than would be indicated by her Iyengar background.
She encourages students to think and act creatively while honouring the framework of their own capabilities and limitations. She has spent many years in Asia and has written several books, including Walking to the Mountain (about a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash), Yoga for Pregnancy and Integrating Philosophy into Yoga Teaching and Practice. She is a DCT and a BWY Pregnancy Yoga Module tutor.
