ABOUT OUR FEATURED READERS:
CONNIE ROOP is a children’s literature book author and, more recently, a poet. Connie will share her recently published picture book, Maya Angelou Finds Her Voice, which she co-authored with her husband Peter. Their new book was illustrated by Noa Denmon, a Caldecott Honor Winner. Travel with Connie and her “poet partner” Deb Andrews through the seasons with their chilly winter, emerging spring, humid summer, and festive fall poetry. Connie’s poems have been published in Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets’ calendars and Maine’s The Island Advantage newspaper. One of her poems was included in the Ekphrastic project at the Trout Museum.
DEB ANDREWS is a longtime writer of marketing materials, personal essays and, since Covid found us, haiku. She and her friend Martha made a pact to exchange each week’s haiku writing with each other, without criticism, editing or accolades. Not only has it been a rewarding experiment, it has led to a devotion to this poetic form. Deb is retired and lives in Neenah with her husband and dear old dog, Annie. Always a lover of words and stories, Deb found great joy in her pre-retirement work as a children’s librarian; now she shares those words and stories with her grandchildren. Her haiku can be found in recent years of the Wisconsin Poets’ Calendar.
