Join Richard Laugharn and Neil Miller for a conversation about making professional and personal connections through photography.
About this Event

The evening will start with a presentation by Neil Miller discussing why be a creative photographer. The talk will revolve around opportunities and anecdotes experienced during a lifetime in photography. The evening will continue with Richard Laugharn talking about ways to approach making a living in creative photography. Richard has worked with many known artists along with pursuing a personal creative career. His business experience is well known in the art world.

This special event is free and open to the public, limited to 25 attendees. Please RSVP so we know how many to expect for seating. Be sure to take in the current AZPA Members' Exhibition while you're there!


About the Artists

is an American photographer working to capture the many fleeting aspects of life. His was a thoroughbred racing photographer while completing a BFA in photography at Ohio University. He went on to be a US Navy photographer and then completed his MFA in photography at Arizona State University. In the 1970s Neil participated as an assistant in the Ansel Adams/Friends of Photography Workshops and studied with Ansel Adams, Wynn Bullock, Jerry Uelsmann, Frederick Sommer, Garry Winogrand, W. Eugene Smith, Linda Connor among others. He also was an instructor at the ASU College of Architecture for 10 years. After a career in TV News, he has been a supporter of the photographic arts through Arizona Photography Alliance, and currently serves as its President.


was born in New York City, grew up in California, and has lived in Arizona's Sonoran Desert for over 30 years. At an early age, both his father and uncle exposed Laugharn to photography. As a young man, photography was a good fit with his shy, observant outlook and interest in the natural world. Richard holds a BA in Art from Cal State Long Beach and earned an MFA in Photography from Arizona State University in 1993. He was a co-author of Among Unknown Tribes, Rediscovering the Photographs of Explorer Carl Lumholtz (University of Texas Press). His work is represented by Etherton Gallery in Tucson and is held in several collections including the Center for Creative Photography and the Nelson Atkins Museum.
