We are artist mothers. As the years have passed and our children have grown, we find ourselves in a new a role, expanding the qualities of care and nurturing outwards, toward a larger community and the natural environment.
We find ourselves standing on the precipice of great change across many systems, both natural and human-made, that we have long taken for granted: democracy, the environment, and the fragile web of social and political stability. Our work emerges from this turbulence. Through material metaphors, poetry and paint, we explore themes of memory, nostalgia, grief and loss, and the looming presence of the sixth extinction. These threads intertwine to express a deep responsibility to protect what remains, to mourn what is vanishing and to question our complicity within systems that perpetuate harm. Our practice is an offering: a gesture of love and care for the world as it is, and as it might yet become.
This exhibition features work by Charlene Brown, Sandra Brown, Karen Cornelius, Corrine Enberg, Pamela Desmet Franklin, Brenna George, Briony Haig, Colleen Leduc, Rose Montgomery-Whicher, Leigha Phelps, Mary Ferguson Thomas, Sheri Turner, Melanie Dennis Unrau and Marilee Van Nice.
