ConnectedCities: Metroisation of the Railways

Sir Peter has stated that a cultural change is required so that the railway becomes accustomed to operating the kind of service frequencies more commonly associated with a metro system.

Frequent rail services enable local authorities and developers to deliver sustainable development of both market and affordable housing in healthy communities where active travel and frequent, reliable public transport are the norm.

Post Covid Public Transport - The opportunity exists to make a step change in improving public transport, spreading the former peak-hour load across the whole day, by providing 'Pullman Standard' seating and booking, so more passengers are carried in greater comfort and enjoy and make productive use of their travelling time. Services offering realtime booking and reservations operating from user friendly stations which are community hubs provide a much more attractive experience than the private car while also decarbonising travel.
