About this Event
On May 4th, there were devastating flash floods and landslides in Kalehe, a territory in the South Kivu province of Democratic Republic of Congo - this is the exact area where many of us have sourced coffee from over the years. The disaster has caused extensive damage to roads, bridges and hospitals, leaving many locals without basic necessities such as food, water and shelter.
In response, a coalition of NYC coffee roasters are working together to throw a benefit fundraiser.
The fundraiser will feature:
- A “pay what you can” pop-up coffee shop featuring seasonally available coffees from Eastern Africa and Willa's Oat Milk
- Cup tasters competition - both a fun round (easy, entry level coffees) and a professional round (more challenging coffees)
- Pour Latte Art with a Pro! For $5, you can have an express latte art lesson with a latte artist
- Brew Coffee with a Pro! For $5, you can choose a brewer and get an express manual brewing lesson on with a coffee professional
- There will be raffle prizes and refreshing drinks from Parch, Moment, and Ruby!
100% of proceeds will go to Actions Kehele, an emergency grassroots response created by Linda Mugaraka of Mighty Peace Coffee Importers. This money will support the emergency response and provide health services, Medic*tion, housing, shelter, hygiene kits, transportation, dignified funerals for victims, their families and more. We will be collecting donations through the Go Fund Me page set up by Actions Kalehe Synergie and Drink Congo Coffee.
