Tyler Nicole Foundation in collaboration with Hofstra University School of Nursing & Physician Assistant Studies wants you to join us for a panel discussion about the perinatal health crisis that Black individuals face in this country. There will be a documentary screening of “Toxic: A Black Women’s Story” which explores the multiple inequities beneath the infant mortality rates in Black women.

Presenting Problem:
Black women in the United States face unprecedented challenges in perinatal healthcare. With infant mortality rates more than triple those of white women, this event is a critical opportunity to:
- Understand systemic inequities
- Amplify Black women's experiences
- Explore actionable solutions
- Build provider/community awareness and support

Join us for a critical panel discussion addressing the urgent infant and maternal health crisis facing Black individuals in the United States. The event will feature a screening of "Toxic: A Black Women's Story," a powerful documentary that delves into the complex inequities underlying the alarmingly high infant mortality rates among Black women. This timely discussion comes as recent data shows Black infants continue to die 3 to 4 times the rate of white infants. Our expert panel will explore the multifaceted causes of these disparities, including systemic racism, healthcare bias, and socioeconomic factors, while highlighting potential solutions and ongoing initiatives to combat this critical issue.

This documentary explores a day in the life of “Nina,” a professional African American woman in her second trimester of pregnancy. The film depicts the cumulative effects of the chronic stress Nina experiences as a normal part of her daily routine. These experiences begin from the moment she wakes up and continue throughout the day, as she endures a myriad of stressful events that impact her health and well-being.
