September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada and this year marks the tenth anniversary of the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Final Report on the history and legacy of Indian Residential Schools. The TRCC's findings are becoming better known and gaining broader acceptance among Canadians. Yet apologists for the residential school system are also lashing back and gaining influence, including in political quarters.We will identify some recent projects undertaken by leading apologists, give examples of their favourite misleading arguments, and suggest we - and non-Indigenous people especially - can and should confront them.
