About this Event
Background: Holding and slowing water in the landscape to reduce flood risk to towns and villages, termed Natural Flood Management (NFM), has received increasing attention over the last five years as the risk of flooding worsens and opportunities for funding traditional flood defences become limited. Many organisations across Cumbria and neighbouring counties have delivered natural flood management projects and monitored how effective they have been at reducing flood peaks .
The event: This conference provides an opportunity to hear from academics and practitioners about how effective Natural Flood Management techniques can be and how can we design them to be most successful, reviewing results of monitoring and modelling studies. We will also take a look at the future of NFM and how to build on the evidence for a resilient future.
The day: The conference will consist of a series of presentations with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss the findings. A networking and poster session will allow opportunity to catch up with others working in this area. Refreshments throughout the day and a simple lunch will be provided.
