Join us for a thought-provoking and informative session on what the future of finance might look like, including some of the challenges, opportunities, and how to be prepared.

  • CFA institute conducts ongoing global research to help shape a more trustworthy, forward-thinking investment profession. Hear from Dr Jeff Stangl on what is predicted for Future of Work in Investment Management.
  • Investment firms increasingly see sustainable investing as critical. Mary Leung will discuss key highlights from a 2020 CFA Institute report; Future of Sustainability in Investment Management.
  • Stuart Millar will share his insights from an industry perspective, including industry trends and how these might impact the finance profession.

Suggested audience: This event will be of particular interest to university students and finance professionals early in their career, but anyone is welcome. It is part of CFA Society New Zealand's investment conference.

SPEAKERS

Mary Leung, CFA - Head of Advocacy Asia Pacific, CFA Institute

Mary is responsible for the development, maintenance, and promotion of capital markets policy perspectives in the APAC region. She has over 20 years of experience in the global financial industry, having worked in corporate finance, wealth management advisory, and fund management. Previously, she was director of Business Development and Management with Coutts & Co, and executive director at UBS AG, where she led the Corporate Advisory Group.With experience in both buy and sell-sides, Mary has a strong understanding of the drivers and dynamics of different investor groups, including institutional investors, corporates, family offices, asset owners, and high-net-worth individuals. She has a degree in Engineering and is a CFA charterholder.

Stuart Millar, CFA - Chief Investment Officer, Smartshares Limited

Stuart is manager of the Smartshares exchange traded funds (ETFs) and its Superlife Managed Funds and KiwiSaver.

Previously, he was Head of Div. Portfolio Management at ANZ Investments directing the management of ANZ's suites of multi-asset KiwiSaver, Managed Investment Funds and Private Bank model portfolios.

Stuart began his career in capital markets working at JP Morgan, London. He was later Investment Strategist for ING New Zealand, OnePath NZ and ANZ's Global CIO covering NZ, Australia and Asia.

He has held lead roles in investment strategy, asset allocation and currency management, and managed third-party multi-manager equity and fixed interest portfolios. Stuart is a CFA charterholder.

Dr Jeffrey Stangl, CFA - Chair, CFA Society New Zealand

Jeff is the Executive Director for Strategic Partnerships at Massey University Business School. He holds degrees in Economics from the University of California and an MBA from The American Graduate School (Thunderbird).

Jeff has a PhD from Massey University in investments. His research passions lie with building financial capability and improving investor education.

A CFA charterholder since 2009, Jeff has been a Director of CFA Society New Zealand since 2012.
