About this Event
"Concurrence has a firm grounding in experimental, edgy jazz, and improvisation is at the core of everything they do. But their recordings and performances (with mainstream jazz vocalists, spoken-word artists and rappers alike) show them drawing on multiple groove-oriented sources to focus on something they aptly call 'black creative music'" Ron Wynn - Nashville Scene
Concurrence takes the stage in a special quartet configuration with drummer Marcus Finnie and saxophonist/sound designer Steve Pardo.
Lauded as the city's "Best Jazz Band that isn't a Jazz Band" (Nashville Scene), Concurrence is a musical brotherhood based on trust, collaboration, research and improvisation. Keyboardist Paul Horton (Alabama Shakes, Brittany Howard Band) together with bassist/broadcaster Greg Bryant (SiriusXM Real Jazz) have forged their musical partnership on bandstands across the United States and Canada touring independently and also opening for Cory Henry and Rebirth Brass Band. Concurrence's latest album, Indivisible, released on the Brooklyn-based label La Reserve, examines the deleterious effects of interstate highway construction on communities of color.
For their 2025 return to Rudy's Jazz Room, March 13-15, Concurrence collaborates with an exciting and diverse cast of musicians featuring all star drummers Nate Smith (Kinfolk, Brittany Howard, The Fearless Flyers) Friday 8pm, Marcus Finnie (Kurt Elling's SuperBlue) Saturday 8pm, and Willie B (Robert Randolph) Thursday 9pm, as well as saxophonist and sound designer Steve Pardo Saturday 8pm, turntabalist DJ Colonel Austin Thursday 9pm, emcee/spoken word artist Rashad thaPoet Thursday 9pm, and will present the trio Brutal Hymn Friday at 11pm.
