THURSDAY 13th JUNE • CONCRETE PRAIRIE • FREE ENTRY!
Concrete Prairie are a five-piece ensemble blurring the genres of Folk, Country, Americana, Indie & Blues to create their heartworn sound. Though their compositions tackle heavy and topical themes the songs are “shot through with silver linings”, something evidenced by a spirited and rousing sound orchestrated with twanging guitars, straining fiddle and yearning prose.
The past year has seen them capitalising on the buzz created by their electric live performances, landing them support slots with acts such as Mad Dog McRea, Matt Owens (Noah & The Whale), and Welsh folk wizards Rusty Shackle as well as a packed summer festival season including appearances at some of the best small to mid-sized festivals in the UK. They also scored endorsement from legendary folk-rock band The Waterboys, with a portion of their live cover of “Fisherman’s Blues” being retweeted by frontman Mike Scott while on their UK tour.
The group have now become a word-of-mouth “must see” band in their native South West and are eagerly treading the boards further afield, organically growing their fanbase as they go with an unwavering belief that great gigs – and lots of them – can provide a love & longevity that overnight social-media stardom cannot.
Having caught the ears of esteemed producer John Reynolds (Sinead O’Connor, Indigo Girls, Robert Plant, Damien Dempsey), they recorded their debut album at the legendary Real World Studios. This self-titled collection was released by Good Deeds Music in September 2022 to critical acclaim including a 10/10 review from Americana UK, plays on BBC Introducing and an “Artist of the Week” feature on BBC Radio. The band are now writing songs for their sophomore effort, crafting away in the rehearsal room and showcasing new songs to keep the set fresh.
The thrill of performing live is where the band’s passion lies, willingly expanding on the foundations set on their recordings with fine musicianship and flair, the band are always looking to create a “moment”. They are true believers in making a connection with their audience, engaging the crowd with their stage presence, showmanship and a dynamic suite of songs to offer moments of escape and feel-good catharsis. The group define a great show by the reaction of spectators, a statement showing their maturity and understanding of live entertainment, all the while managing to maintain their artistic integrity.
The quintet realise the fortune of holding their debut album launch at the legendary and sadly now defunct Moles Club (Bath), and have played all the landmark venues in Bristol including The Louisiana and The Fleece. They have also been welcomed into the blossoming UK Americana scene, sharing bills with heavyweights of the genre such as The Wandering Hearts, Ethan Johns, Magic Numbers, Robert Vincent, Hannah White and Treetop Flyers to name a few. It is testament to the band’s versatility and pure love of live performance that they have also played shows at classical concert halls (Marden House, Wiltshire Music Centre) and tiny yet revered music venues within Wiltshire (Swindon’s musical epicentre The Tuppenny and Trowbridge’s Folk/Americana touring stop The Pump).
