PLATTENBAU (D) - HIGH ENERGY POSTPUNK FROM BERLIN
*CURSED- ALBUM RELEASE TOUR*
"In CURSED Plattenbau descends into darker waters, where doom, hardcore, and dungeon synth intertwine, cut with the blade of their signature sound. The record explores the creeping return to feudalism - where rival warlords devastate populations and ecosystems for personal gain, leaving powerless serfs to pick through the wreckage. And yet, despite the dread, CURSED refuses despair. It is not a funeral march but an invitation: rage becomes ritual, noise becomes release, dance becomes defiance."
Formed in 2011 in the dark basement of the former Stasi HQ in East Berlin, the songs written by Plattenbau frontman Lewis Lloyd have evolved from wiry and jagged post-punk to taut, ironclad synth fortresses, mechanical and repetitive, brutal and hypnotic. Early themes of fleeting youth and wasted nights have given way to lyrics embodying the excesses and brutalities of our world. Yet somehow these songs remain fun, straddling the ever-fruitful territory between noise and pop
GOFAI (L) LUXEMBURG'S HARDCORE NOISE MACHINE
Don’t expect any melodic kind of punk rock. This is rather a hybrid between fierce hardcore and distorted noise rock. We think of early Hüsker Dü, at times of Dead Kennedys, with an overall sense of nineties AmRep noise rock. Some of the musicians have already played in a couple of metal bands before, most notably vocalist Nicholas who used to front Luxembourg’s only doom metal band Plaguewielder. It’s rare to come across a new band, especially one without hardly any web presence, that will grab your attention so vividly like GOFAI. Keep your eyes and ears open for them, because with a little more publicity, they might grow quite the fanbase. It’s good to know that Luxembourg still has its share of great new bands.
