In their new program, Paradise, they explore the rich tradition of American shape-note music, presenting inventive arrangements of 19th-century hymns alongside works by modern composers like Caroline Shaw and John Prine. With two trumpets and two trombones, The Westerlies deliver concert hall precision with folklike warmth, guiding listeners on a musical journey.
From the haunting strains of “Weeping Mary” to the rhythmic flair of “The 5:10 to Ronkonkoma,” Paradise is both reverent and adventurous—an evocative, genre-blurring program that reflects The Westerlies' passion for musical storytelling and innovation.
