About this Event

Join us for the highly-anticipated, long-awaited debut of Jarred Albright and David Morrissey taking the stage together, exclusively at Celtic Folk, on April 13th. The Red Porch Ramblers and Get Reel will round out the evening for our red, green start to spring at the Irish Cultural Society Calgary, Hickey’s Place.

The evening is at Hickey’s Place in a concert format (attentive audience) in an authentic pub-style setting, with three acts and the ICS bar. We’ll have some food on the menu via A Certain Flair Catering. Cash and electronic payment options.

It will be another fantastic show. Previous concerts have sold out, so don’t wait to get your tickets – you’ve been warned.

Jarred Albright and David Morrissey

Despite their similar playing careers in Calgary, not to mention a similar penchant for all things trad, it is a miracle that David Morrissey and Jarred Albright are only just sharing the stage together for the first time right here at Celtic Folk.

Having grown up in Kildare, Ireland, David Morrissey oozes groove, feel, and creativity when it comes to traditional Irish accompaniment. He’s also pretty handy on the tenor banjo. No stranger to trad sessions himself, Jarred has been playing the fiddle since he was able to hold one and has picked up a few other stringed skills along the way.

Expect many instrument swaps, outrageous key changes, deep-cut tunes, and all the joyous off-the-cuff release of far too many years spent NOT ripping tunes together.

The Red Porch Ramblers

With a passion for that down-home, front porch sound, The Red Porch Ramblers (RPR) combine their vocal and multi-instrument talents to play traditional folk music from around the world.

The fiddle, guitar, mandolin, Celtic whistle, banjo, and Cajun accordion all sit at the musical table for the tunes the RPRs love to play.

When RPR members Randy Sawatzky, Dave, and Charlotte Poulsom are not writing new tunes or jamming on Dave’s red front porch, you might catch them at an open mic or playing in a park.

Get Reel (Trio)

Hailing from the East Coast of De Winton and the North Shores of Calgary, our jolly ship’s crew will explore a lively set of songs and fiddle tunes from the East Coast, Irish, Scottish, Folk, and other Celtic traditions.

Get Reel is Doug Wagner (vocals, harmonies, bodhran, guitar, and fiddle), Greg Black (vocals, harmonies, guitar, electric bass, and octave mandolin) and Tony Hogan (vocals and percussion).

Over the last 17 years, Get Reel has performed in numerous venues around Alberta, including the Water Valley Celtic Festival, the Irish Cultural Society, Okotoks, and the High River. We are also the house band for Celtic Folk.

When the fog is just right, you can almost smell the ocean, see the shipwrecks, hear the crashing waves and a tiny trace of fiddling in the distance far behind him.

Important Notes

It is a concert format (attentive audience) in an authentic pub-style setting. It is not a pub night. The ICS provides the bar service. Please be responsible and reasonable while enjoying the performance so everyone else can enjoy their evening.

There is a stairlift but no ramp or elevator to access Hickey’s Place. As a private venue, children are permitted. However, they should be old enough to focus on the performance or another non-disruptive activity and must be supervised by a parent at all times.

Doors open at 6:30 pm.

Due to the nature of running concerts, all ticket sales are final.
