? Part of the Whiddon Autumn Festival 2024A Feast of Strings offers a rare opportunity to hear Mendelssohn's String Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20, as the prize-winning Solem Quartet joins forces with our own Festival String Quartet in an exclusive collaboration conceived specially for this concert.
In the first half, the Solem Quartet presents Claude Debussy's only string quartet, a wonderful work composed in the early days of his impressionistic style, full of ravishing chordal shifts and sensuous melodies, as well as their own arrangement of Nadia Boulanger's Trois Pièces, originally for cello & piano.
Praised for their “immaculate precision and spirit” (The Strad) and “cultured tone” (Arts Desk), the Solem Quartet has established itself as one of the most innovative and adventurous quartets of its generation. A 2020 awardee of the Jerwood Arts Live Work Fund, one of 33 artists selected from more than 1200 applicants, the Solem Quartet takes its place amongst some of the UK’s brightest artistic voices.
