Our free beginner classes will help you learn about computers and Microsoft Windows, word processing and other office programs, the Internet, and social media. Our classes focus on practical skills that will help you use a computer at home, school, or work.
These classes are for adults with little or no computer experience. Ages 18 and up.
Free computer! If you attend all four classes, you will receive a free refurbished computer system. Limit one per household. If you miss a class, you can make it up later.
Class meets once a week for two hours. Here's what you'll learn and practice each week:
Week 1 - Computer Basics: Hardware and software basics; essential computer use skills (mouse and keyboard); using an operating system; using apps; typing; saving files; creating and moving files and folders; deleting files.
Week 2 - Documents & Typing: Word processing basics; creating a document; formatting text; editing text; using cut copy and paste.
Week 3 - Internet Basics: What is the Internet; connecting to wifi; browsing the web; searching; accounts and passwords; using online forms; email.
Week 4 - Online Life: Staying safe online; avoiding scams and hoaxes; sending information to a site; evaluating news and information; social media basics.
