About this Event
University of Florida is an equal opportunity institution.
After this workshop you'll be able to create rich soil for starting seeds, amending your vegetable garden, increasing your soil health; plus, you’ll be able to recycle most food waste into fishing bait (worms) while improving the environment (lower greenhouse gases)!
Most food scraps are thrown away! By taking this workshop, you can work towards a better future for the planet. Learn to recycle your food scraps at home. It's a great "all hands on deck" type activity to interact with the family and it is a positive example to set for our youth.
In addition there are many lucrative outlets for composters. Red Wigglers are not only themselves valuable for soil building, fish bait, or composting, but their castings, or waste excrement can sell for top-dollar.
Your ticket purchase includes:
1x Pack of premium bedding (pine shavings)-10 cu. ft
1x Five-gallon bucket with "no see um" mesh fitted top
1x Hardwire outdoor composting cage (2 ft. tall by 3 ft. diameter or 10 ft. of length)
1x 40-50 live red wigglers w/ two weeks of food and one month of bedding and ggshells/lime
