About this Event
Join us for an engaging Composting 101 workshop led by Andrew Wright of Green Done Wright—a lifelong sustainability advocate, passionate gardener, and environmental science professional with over 8 years of experience working in the recycling and waste industry. Through his work, Andrew saw firsthand how much food waste ends up in landfills and was inspired to help his community learn practical, accessible ways to compost at home.
What You’ll Learn
- What composting actually is (and why it matters)
- What can and can’t be composted
- Different composting methods (backyard, small-space, and more)
- How to avoid common composting issues like odors and pests
- How to build and maintain a healthy compost pile
The workshop will include a mix of lecture-style learning and hands-on activities, making it approachable for beginners while still valuable for those looking to deepen their composting knowledge.
Hands-On Activity
We’ll be building a compost pile together during the workshop.
Participants are encouraged to bring food scraps from home (please no meat or dairy). Plant-based scraps like fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and eggshells are perfect.
We’ll also supplement materials with coffee grounds from a local coffee shop to help create a well-balanced compost pile.

- Anyone looking to build more sustainable habits at home
- Gardeners, renters, homeowners, and small-space dwellers alike
