Composting 101: April 29th, 12-1 pmJoin Education Specialist Wendy Marshburn for an introduction to composting. This session will cover the basics of composting at home, including what materials to use, how to maintain your compost pile and the environmental benefits of composting. Both outdoor composting and indoor vermicomposting will be covered. A perfect class for beginners looking to reduce waste and enrich their garden soil.
Instructor Bio: Wendy has always enjoyed nature whether it was a hike in the mountains or a stroll down the beach finding beautiful shells. As a student she sought a science-based degree receiving a Bachelor of Science at Clemson University in 1993. While raising her children on her husband’s family farm she enjoyed gardening, composting, and teaching the next generation to care for Mother Nature through sustainable and organic processes. Wendy Marshburn taught school for 13 years and during that time lead three teams of middle schoolers to State Envirothon Competition. Wendy now enjoys further sharing her knowledge and love for nature by teaching at Cape Fear Botanical Gardens as an Education Specialist. As an Education Specialist she enjoys helping others learn how to live a more environmentally responsible lifestyle. At home her husband and she aspire to live a sustainable lifestyle on their small farm.
Audience Target: This lunchtime lecture is designed for adults. Children ages 10+ are also welcome. No prior experience is necessary.
Format: This is a lunchtime lecture presentation. Please bring your lunch to enjoy or feel free to purchase snacks or sweet treats on site.
