About this Event
Thinker Maker Space of CYENS presents the talk and exhibition "Compostable Altar: offering to the earth" by resident artist Betiana Pavón.
The purpose of this project is to act as a catalytic microcosm, creating a symbolic and physical bridge between humanity, technology and nature. Inspired by ancestral rituals, it proposes the creation of a sculptural piece that is not only an artistic expression, but also a symbolic gesture towards the regeneration of the earth in a post-organic world. The development of this research and innovation project began experimentally, formulating biomaterial recipes (capable of being mechanically extruded through LDM, Liquid Deposit Modeling technology) from locally abundant food and organic waste. The goal is to address current waste management challenges with circular and sustainable solutions through artistic practice.
During the residency, experimentation was key, focusing on exploring the structural potential and compostability of the biomaterials. Material composition and decomposition timelines emerged as primary research areas, with decomposition periods currently under analysis and documentation. This decomposition symbolizes a harmonious cycle in which artistic creation directly contributes to new life.

ABOUT BETIANA PAVÓN
Betiana Pavón, born in Argentina.
She trained and dabbled in various fields including Architecture, Interior Design, Photography, Styling and Art Direction. Since 2018, she resides in Spain, where she graduated from the Fabricademy programme at Fab Lab Barcelona (IAAC), exploring the intersection between textiles, digital fabrication and biology, later becoming a collaborator and instructor.
In this context of communion between art and design she has won and been recognised in international competitions such as: Global Talents Digital MBFWRussia 20, Samsung EGO Innovation Project 19, Reshape 19 Smart Product, Fashion Tech Week NY, Altaroma, among others. Her last position was Academic Coordinator and Instructor at the Basque BioDesign Center leading the research department and the development of materials related to biofabrication.
Her current artistic practice is intertwined with bio-art through three-dimensional format using biomaterials and organic waste as vehicles of morphological construction, experimentally seeking not only to explore new materialities, but also to critically promote environmental awareness and reflection on our relationship with the natural environment.
