About this Event

As a volunteer for our Community Compost Builds, you will be part of creating a large pile of compost.

Join us to build a compost windrow! We will combine 15,000 lbs of neighborhood-generated food scraps with an equal amount of Governors Island yard waste. Learn about how we process these organics.

Volunteers help remove contaminants (plastics and other non-compostable items) to help ensure our compost pile is healthy & happy as it begins its journey from Day 1.

This is also a great educational opportunity as we discuss compostable plastics, recycling efforts in NYC, and compost contamination rates in our piles

Plan to be on the 8am Governors Island ferry at Battery Maritime Building, located at 10 South Street in Lower Manhattan and finish between 11:30am and noon at Earth Matter.

Event led by NYC Compost Project Hosted by Earth Matter NY.

Registration is required for participation in this event.
