Seminar 8 of Improvisation in the 21st Century. Over her 30+ year relationship with music, Carmen Sandim eclectic aesthetics have drawn her in many directions, including performances with symphony orchestras, scoring for independent movies, composing award winning TV and radio jingles, and leading, writing, and arranging for her own Jazz ensembles. Sandim first gained attention as a Jazz composer in the 2000s after moving to Boulder, Colorado. Her latest album, "Mini Brazilian Beasts," features cornetist Ron Miles. In 2016, she won a grant from Pathways to Jazz to record her sophomore album, "Play-Doh";, released in 2019 via Ropeadope Records. . Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sandim studied music at Boston's Berklee College of Music and University of Colorado. Carmen currently lives in Denver and teaches at the University of Colorado Boulder, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and University of Colorado Denver.
