About this Event
Our second “Composer Portrait” concert in the Milken Center Chamber Music series features themusic by distinguished American Jewish composer Stanley Walden (b. 1932). Mr. Walden has had a remarkable career: clarinetist with the NY Philharmonic, composer of concert music, opera, stage, film, etc., filmmaker, writer, improvisation expert and more.
He’s written for some of the great American musicians and orchestras of our time including pianists Robert Levin and Gilbert Kalish, singers Jan DeGaetani and Reri Grist, cellist Joel Krosnick, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra and Louisville Orchestra, as well as co-writing the music for the notorious 1969 musical “Oh! Calcutta!” with Peter Schickele. Among the works performed will be his “Sh’ma” for violin and cello (2022) and “Coronach: A Kaddish” for alto solo, English horn and speaker (1989).
