Complete and Walkable Neighbourhoods in Etobicoke

A community workshop to envision how we can create healthier, more sustainable and more engaged neighbourhoods in Etobicoke.
About this Event

A complete or walkable community is one that provides easy access (within a 10 to 15 minute walk or cycle) to a full range of shops and services, housing options, transportation options, and amenities such as parks or playgrounds that meet people’s needs for daily living at any point in their lifetime.

Complete communities offer a range of benefits. They bring people together and are filled with opportunities for social and civic engagement. They attract business and help established businesses thrive. They are healthier, both mentally and physically. And they are good for the environment. Not only are complete communities a key component of reducing vehicle traffic, they create neighbourhoods with a strong sense of stewardship of the land.

But how do you transition from a densely suburban and established community like Etobicoke, built around the car and commuting, to a sustainable, vibrant, complete community?

At our next public forum, participants will engage with neighbours in a workshop to

Learn how complete communities benefit a neighbourhood and the mechanisms and barriers specific to Etobicoke that need to be tackled.

Discover what your own neighbourhood already offers and what is needed for it to become a more vibrant, engaged and sustainable community.

Gain tools and support to help you and your neighbours push for a more complete livable community.

All are welcome. We will have a supervised play area with games and activities for those with young children. Light refreshments will be provided.

Brought to you by Etobicoke Climate Action in connection with Toronto West KAIROS, ECULINKS Etobicoke, the Central Etobicoke Community Hub Initiative, Friends of the Etobicoke Greenway, and The Etobicoke Voice.

Sponsored by the City of Toronto through Live Green Toronto and the Neighbourhood Climate Action Champions Program.
