Compassionate Collier Older Adults training is provided to older adults and those who interact with older adults interested in developing an understanding of mental health, common challenges and warning signs, how to discuss concerns with others, and resources available. This training provides participants with resources tailored to support older adults, including unique insights into mental health issues that may arise in later life. Each attendee will be trained in Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR): an evidence-based suicide prevention certification. A tour of DLC and refreshments will be provided.This 2½-hour, in-person training will provide a comprehensive understanding of mental health and common concerns that older adults may experience and addresses the importance of early identification and crisis intervention. By highlighting prevalence rates and challenges experienced nationally and locally, participants will learn of the high demand and need for mental health services. Participants will gain insights into the mental health needs specific to the older adult population and learn strategies to foster mental wellness. Attendees will be guided through tips on addressing concerns with compassion and connecting individuals to supportive resources. Compassionate Collier also features a certification in the evidence-based, nationally recognized, suicide prevention program, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), which provides anyone in the community with the confidence and skills needed to offer assistance in times of crisis.
DLC recently received a generous grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide Mental Health First Aid trainings at no cost to our community.
