COmpass REsonance: ANONIMO VENEZIANO

Co-presented by Boulder Bach Festival & the Dairy Arts Center – Bask in the resonances experienced in Venice three hundred years ago.
Tomaso Albinoni was one of the most inspired Venetian violinists of the Baroque Era and composed music reflecting his free, expressive playing style. Our program opens with the famous “Adagio,” which has been heard in countless film scores, but which was actually composed by an Italian musicologist who was inspired by an Albinoni manuscript that has since vanished. We continue with Albinoni’s Opus 2 Sinfonias, which capture a similar essence to the Adagio, a spirit of compassion and freedom.
The Sinfonias feature soaring, plaintive, poetic and dancelike interwoven string lines with a fabulous instrumentation that includes a robust basso section with cello, double bass, and harpsichord in addition to two separate viola parts, violins, and the ancient mysterious theorbo.
Our performance brings renowned violinist Nurit Pacht from NYC to Boulder, collaborating with Music Director/violinist Zachary Carrettin and the CORE ensemble. Harpsichord virtuoso Chris Holman joins us from Cincinnati, and ancient plucked instrument maestro Keith Barnhart brings his theorbo—rich in tone, adding a powerful depth to the ensemble’s sonority.
This performance is an extremely rare opportunity—anywhere in the world—to hear Albinoni’s Opus 2 collection in its entirety. Lasting approximately 75 minutes and performed without intermission, this program features distinct and contrasting works in the unique compositional voice of a phenomenal musician and virtuoso violinist of the Italian Baroque.
