Between the Grand Calumet River bounded by Indianapolis Blvd. and the Indiana Toll Road lies a natural wetland called "Roxana Marsh." A lot of work has been accomplished to restore the marsh in the past 15 plus years, including remediating toxins and contaminants and reducing invasive weeds, allowing native plants and countless animals and birds to thrive in the area. Major restoration milestones have been achieved and the future of the marsh needs to be determined. East Chicago and Hammond residents, especially people who live near the marsh, are invited to attend a community workshop to explore future priorities. What do you want to see?
Hosts include The Nature Conservancy in Indiana, the U.S. Forest Service and East Chicago Parks & Recreation. A light breakfast will be provided, as well as activities for kids and a complimentary gift card to thank you for your participation. The event is being held at the East Chicago Public Library Pastrick Branch, 1008 W Chicago Ave. We hope to see you there!
This project is funded, in part, by the Chi Cal Rivers Fund of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Foundation.
