Community Tea Ceremony - Sunday Sessions

Community Tea Ceremony held on the first Sunday of every month as part of the Sunday Sessions community at Sandfly Hall.
Tea Ceremony is a quiet, meditative practice of sharing tea in a bowl. Tea is a time-honoured companion to humans—grown, cultivated and served in relationship with all elements. Sharing tea is a profoundly simple practice, graceful in its artform, steeped in silence and reverence for the mundane. This ceremony offers us all shared moments of mindfulness, and opens our hearts to beauty, gratitude and humility.
Arrivals:
Please arrive at 10.45am, wait outside in silence and enter quietly, as a group, when the doors open at 10.50am. These gathering, internal moments outside are designed to help you transition into a quiet and subtle space for the ceremony.
What to bring:
The hall is moderately heated, and cushions are provided for sitting on the floor. It's recommended to dress in warm, comfortable layers. Leave your shoes at the door.
Please refrain from wearing perfume, and keep other practices + rituals (journals, cards, mantras etc.) out of the space.
Notes on etiquette:
Please sit down at a cushion quietly when you enter. We’ll share a few bowls of tea. You may sit a round out by leaving your bowl at your feet, and pop it back on the table when you’d like to join the next one. Bathrooms are at the back of the hall, to the left—feel free use them at any time during the session. We’ll finish with water and I’ll break the silence to complete the session. There will be time to share after the ceremony is complete.
It’s my intention to honour tea as a traditional practice, so I ask all guests to honour the ceremony as a silent, meditative space. Tea offers an opportunity to contact your own inner stillness, and open your heart and senses to beauty. I look forward to sharing tea with you.
With love,
Helena
