What Is the Project?
This project brings local organizations and Cocoa West residents together to address flooding and water quality challenges through community-driven solutions. Centered on resident voices and experiences, we are exploring green infrastructure solutions that absorb and filter rainwater to reduce flood impacts. The project is led in partnership with Florida Sea Grant, Stetson University, Little Growers Inc., East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Brevard County.
How Can This Project Benefit the Community?
This project supports planning for green infrastructure or green space that absorbs and filters rainwater, helping reduce the impacts of flooding in Cocoa West. Using tools like drone imagery, geospatial modeling, and community input, the work is guided by both data and lived experience. STEM learning opportunities for local youth may also be available.
