Community music is an approach to music making that stresses active collaboration between individuals who play, create, improvise and perform music together . It is music making that fosters individual growth and community development. We will gather once a month to sing together. We will draw from folk, classic country, pop, rock, international and American song book sources for songs that will be familiar, easy to learn, fun to sing and play. Singing together is good for your health, your memory, your heart. It helps develop empathy and build connections, relieve loneliness and songs can help hold and express grief and sadness as well as joy. This is not an open mic, but an opportunity to all sing together to make up harmonies. This is not a performance - it is for fun. Kim is an experienced song leader and musician, and she will choose the initial songs, and curate requests, and keys. You are welcome to bring your tuned instrument - and a piano will be available. All songs will be new the first session, but we will be building a repertoire, so songs that people like will be repeated month to month, leaving a little less room for new songs. The group will help determine the song choices. You will be welcome to suggest songs too. All ages welcome, no experience necessary. Community Singing will take place on these Tuesdays in Cohen Hall at the Keene Public Library from 6:30- 7:30 - Oct 8, Nov 12 and Dec 10.
