Welcome to the THIRD Community Share! We had an excellent time the first two times,
and I bet this time will be great as well!
Want an idea of what this is about?
See my behind the scenes video here:
▶️
➡️ Everyone whether they are in a Buy Nothing Group or not is welcome to come and take part! (This event is not affiliated with Buy Nothing, though, fun fact, it was inspired by the book by the Buy Nothing creators!)
? PLEASE HELP ME BY SHARING; last time so many people were sad to miss it. So let's get this info to as many people as we can!
➡️ This event has two components, and you can take part in either or both! It's all about bringing and taking, and there are different times for both.
⭐ DROP OFF
If you have a lot of things to drop off, please come at 11:30 to do that. We will start setting up the tables at 11 and would love to have things to put out.
If you have only a few things, you can drop them off when you come shop, so anytime that the swap is going on.
⭐ SHOPPING or TAKING begins at 12:00 and lasts until 3:30.
?? BRING: things that you no longer want, need, or use, but you think someone else may want, need, or use. When deciding, think about the condition: used, gently used, and new are great, As a rule of thumb, please only bring things that you would donate, since the extras will be donated. Since this one is right before the winter holidays, think of things that would be great gifts!
Some ideas of things to bring:
Clothes
Books
Toys
Puzzles and games
Tisues, bags, wrapping paper, packing material
Electronics
Crafting supplies
Kitchen supplies
Pens, pencils, crayons, paint
Home improvement things
Shoes, coats, hats, mittens
Toiletries
? Please DO NOT bring:
Furniture of any kind. We were left with some really big things last time that made packing up difficult. If you have a question about an item, ask in the discussion here!
If you bring your things in boxes and bags,
please leave those to help take items back out.
⭐ TAKE: whatever you'd like! This is not a swap, so please don't think of this as a one in one out thing. These items are given freely and as gifts, and they're for you! Take what you think you can use.
? IMPORTANT: Do NOT take things with the intention of reselling them. This goes against the Buy Nothing spirit. If you need to sell something to get money for something else, think about asking for it instead in a community group.
At the end of the event,
all items not taken will be taken and donated.
WHAT WE NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN:
⭐ I need some people to help: 3-5 for setup and during the swap, and 8-10 people willing to take donations at the end. I will as well but I cannot take everything. Around 3:30 we'll round up everything and we can split it up to then donate. I will look up some drop box places and share places that have taken donations in the past. Expect to take a good amount! We can help move things out to vehicles too.
IF WE DO NOT GET PEOPLE WILLING TO TAKE DONATIONS AT THE END, I CANNOT HOST THIS EVENT. THANKS!

⭐ Come with a general idea of the number of items you are bringing. I want to get a general idea of how many items we have to gift as a way to compare to future events (since I feel like this may be a regular thing)
⭐ Bring and take mindfully (like stated above)
⭐ Bring extra reusable or plastic bags if you have to donate. These will be helpful to have on hand for people who wander in and want to take things.
⭐ Tell everyone you know! We need givers and takers to make this work.
⭐ Coming? Find the post where people are talking about what they're bringing and what they're looking for, and add a comment about what you're bringing and what you're looking for.
Thanks everyone!
➡️ For those that don't know me, I'm Kathy Ellen Davis, a teacher, Mama, and ninja (like American Ninja Warrior but I'm not there...YET!) who is trying to live a lot more intentionally, and I've been giving things away for a while.
I thought this would be a great event to end the year with, and a great way to meet likeminded neighbors and community members. If this goes well, I'll host another in January!
If you RSVP, I've set the guests going as private,
and I've set it so posts do not need to be approved by me to be posted. If everyone behaves and is kind we can keep it that way...I know you can do it!
