About this Event
RESCHEDULED FROM JULY 2025.
Join the Trust for Governors Island's horticulture team and the Governors Island Nature program for a special nighttime community science activity contributing to the ecological knowledge of the Island!
Light trapping is an effective way to learn about and identify insects that are not as active during the day. By using ultraviolet light in a non-lit area, we will be able to attract night-flying insects, including moths and beetles, to a lightweight sheet, where we can observe specimens and collect data using the iNaturalist app. This data helps us better understand the Island's insect diversity and ecosystem.
F erry tickets are not included in your reservation, please purchase tickets online in advance at govisland.org/ferry. Please check in with the Governors Island team at Soissons Landing when you arrive, and we'll travel to the Light Trapping location as a group.
This event will be held outdoors on Governors Island, please dress with the weather in mind. If you have a flashlight or headlamp, please bring It with you.
This event is presented by the Trust for Governors Island and CCNY Insect Ecologists Jhunior Morillo and Dr. Amy Berkov.
