During your on leash walk, you will be guided through a local park in various trail environments to practice your dogs polite walking and neutrality when around dogs and people. Check our booking calendar to ensure that the location is right for you! During your walk, we will practice "pass by exercises" around other the other owners at a safe distance from each other. Although there will be a Certified Dog Trainer present to give pointers, each handler is responsible for “managing” their own dog.
WHERE
Thetis Lake
WHAT TO BRING
- Dogs must be on a 6ft leash
- A collar with a current ID tag
- Any current training equipment
- Treats for your dog
- Water (if necessary)
- Back clip harnesses & retractable leashes are not allowed for safety reasons
SAFETY
- The goal is to keep every person and dog safe, so maintaining distance between dog and handler teams is crucial, unless otherwise instructed.
- Dogs are not permitted to interact with each other.
- On sidewalks and roads dogs need to be “up short but slack on the leash”.
- Owners need to wear comfortable foot wear and weather appropriate clothing.
- Please be mindful of how and when you use rewards (not in close proximity to other dogs).
DON"T FEEL EMBARRASSED
We are all in this together, as a group we are here to encourage and support each other and all of the dogs. No one should feel embarrassed if their dog acts out and is reactive, our purpose is to help them learn new ways of coping and alternate behaviors. All of our classes are designed to include all temperaments of dogs.
