At Derby Public Schools, we believe no student should have to worry about where their next meal will come from. That’s why our Community Assistance School Lunch Program originally started. New this year, to help support these efforts, Derby Public Schools and the Derby Rotary Club are joining forces for a Community Garage Sale with a Purpose: No Child Goes Hungry.
This special event, set to coincide with Derby’s city-wide garage sale weekend, is more than just an opportunity to declutter or find a great deal—it’s a chance for our community to come together to ensure that every student has access to a nutritious school meal, regardless of their financial situation.

Friday, June 6, 6:30AM-5PM
Saturday, June 7, 6:30AM-4PM
All proceeds will directly support the Community Assistance Lunch Program, which provides meal funds for students in need. This is an opportunity for each of us to make a real difference in the lives of local children—one purchase, one donation or one volunteer shift at a time.
There are a few ways to get involved:
• Donate Items: Gently used clothing, household goods, furniture and other items can be contributed to the sale. Find more information on eligible items to donate, including drop-off dates, below!
• Volunteer: Help with setup, organization and sales to ensure a successful fundraising effort. We are also looking for any student groups willing to serve. If interested, please complete this volunteer interest form: https://bit.ly/DPSGarageSale.
• Spread the Word: Share this event with friends, neighbors and colleagues to encourage community participation.
Additionally, businesses and churches can support this cause by hosting a donation drop-off site from May 4-10 or May 12-14. Derby Public Schools staff will coordinate pickups to make donating easy. **Not Accepted: Tires, paint, weapons, alcohol, mattresses, non-working appliances or CRT TVs (only working flat-panel TVs accepted), clothing should be clean and free of stains or holes. Unsold items may be donated, resold for charity or discarded. If you wish to reclaim unsold items you donated, pick-up is on Saturday, June 7, 3-4PM only. Donors must locate their own items; sorting will not be provided.**
