In the wake of the US imperialist attacks against Venezuela, the Caribbean is once again realizing how our "leaders" are quick to collaborate and sacrifice any notion of peace, justice or rights for its own people when regime change and resource theft is on the agenda.

While the Caribbean has largely been left out of the analysis in the mainstream, our societies have become militarized outposts of empire, to be used and disposed when no longer needed. History has shown that the US is not a friend of the Caribbean people, and does not come close to the genuine material, political support and solidarity that Venezuela offered to the region. From PetroCaribe, to ALBA, CELAC and more - we are just starting to understand how this attack will negatively impact the Caribbean, and what role CARICOM can and should have going forward.

Join us for a conversation with an exciting panel that brings some of the top minds and critical voices together, as we are delighted to host Professors Melanie Newton and Tamanisha John, as well as Trinidadian Human Rights Lawyer Runako Gregg.

Additional Speaker Details:

  • Tamanisha John: Professor of Black Politics @ York University, Black Alliance for Peace, & Caribbean Solidarity Network
  • Runako Gregg: Trinidadian Human Rights Lawyer, Movement for Social Justice, & Caribbean Solidarity Network
  • Melanie Newton: Professor of History & Caribbean Studies, University of Toronto

The Centre for Caribbean Studies would like to thank our generous co-sponsors: Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity, Community Engaged Learning and the Caribbean Solidarity Network.
