As a Food Engagement program participant, you will help with a variety of activities in the Food Bank distribution centre that may include: fresh or frozen food sorting, repackaging food or non-perishable food sorting. Food Engagement activities change often, depending on the type of donations received and needs of the community. When you arrive at our distribution centre our engagement team will tell your group what activity they’re supporting that day and provide you with any necessary equipment (hairnets, vinyl gloves). For nearly 40 years, the Food Bank of Waterloo Region has been partnering with agencies across our community to ensure that no one goes hungry. Today, they support more than 120 different community programs & agency partners providing food and connection to other vital supports needed by children, seniors, families, and individuals every day. The Food Bank of Waterloo Region and Cambridge Food Bank are at the centre of this network, actively sourcing fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food for distribution. Last year, more than 40,530 individuals were served by the Community Food Assistance Network.
Community Food Sorts are crucial in ensuring the Food Bank is able to provide much-needed food to our neighbours where we live and do business. Each year, volunteers sort more than 900,000lbs of food that has been collected through community food donations.
