About the Programme
Reconnect with your roots and explore the diversity of home remedies made from plants across Southeast Asia. In this experiential workshop, members from ground-up community SayurStory will share personal recipes for jamu, one of the many varieties of traditional medicine in Indonesia. Participants will get to taste various teas and learn to identify and use their various ingredients for health and well-being. While there will not be any hands-on cooking in the workshop, participants can look forward to preparing the same versatile ingredients to make lulur or body scrubs, and learn to propagate them for growing in their own homes. This programme is suitable for adults and seniors.
About the Speaker
SayurStory is a ground-up initiative that explores community-building with migrant domestic workers (MDWs) through nature-based connections. They facilitate personal and cultural exchange through gardening and cooking activities, as well as nature walks and art. Since the pandemic, they have designed several co-creation projects with the MDW community, including an ethnobotany exhibition and tours at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and cooking workshops that reimagine communities around food. Most recently, they held a cooking workshop as part of the Heritage Activation Nodes @ Katong-Joo Chiat Festival organised by the National Heritage Board, in collaboration with Kim Choo Kueh Chang.
