This year marks the 80th anniversary of the D Day Landings in France during World War II. The trust is commemorating this landmark anniversary with a community celebration on Sunday 9 June from 1pm at Pittville Pump Room. The Heritage Café will transform into a wartime tea-room, serving afternoon tea accompanied by live music from the era from vintage singer Miss Em and DJ Rob McElvanney with dancing from the 1940s. Children and adults are invited to come dressed in the style of the 1940s, an award will be presented for the best dressed of the era.
Customers will be able to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches, traditional fruit cake, Victoria sponge, and a pot of tea or coffee for £16 per person or £25 for two. Individual cream teas will be sold, which include a fruit scone with jam and cream and a cup of tea for £6.50 inside the café or customers are able to take away a pre-made scone with jam and cream for £4.50. We'll also be serving toasted tea cakes, jugs of Pimms for £19.50, and homemade lemonade.
The new soft serve machine will be serving a selection of wartime ice cream sundaes, served in tall glasses from £4. The usual selection of deli sandwiches, bagels, salads, and pasties will also be available.
