Discover interpretive dance of this prose and delve into traditional dances of Brazil and Jamaica by way of ABENG: A call to explore.
About this Event

Come dance!

The dance class will include live Afro-diaspora rhythms to flank our warm ups, stretching and Afro-diaspora dance combinations. This portion of the class will honor the West Indian Dance Theater Company's founder, Alfred Baker, by driving his tried and true style and technique in conditioning dancers and helping them to create body language.

The class will also include a brief lecture demo that will take place to describe and lay down a segment of the history of Africans into Brazil and Jamaica.

The gut of the dance class will be led by company members who have been collectively entrenched in Caribbean folk performance art and many other diaspora cultural and performative normes including those of Brazil, where one member recently returned from as a Fullbright Scholar whose general mission was to research and delve into the dance culture of Brazil. This portion is where we will transport participants to these two regions through a series of autobiographical, traditional, historic and fun in the sun dance movements and dance theater vignettes.

The participants will enjoy the process of embodying knowledge and outpouring it through movement

Fresh tropical fruit will be served and a parting refreshment.
