About this Event
Join the UC San Diego Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and Division of Extended Studies as they host Laura I. Rendón, Ph.D., a nationally recognized student advocate, activist scholar, and contemplative educator on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Rendon's scholarship explores and affirms students’ ability to learn and feel a sense of belonging and caring in the process.
Rendón is a nationally recognized leader in higher education, known for her pioneering work in student success, equity, and the power of education to transform lives. As author of “Sentipensante Pedagogy: Educating for Wholeness, Social Justice and Liberation” and the creator of the Validation Theory, she has helped redefine how we support and uplift students, particularly those from historically underserved backgrounds. Her research and advocacy have paved the way for countless individuals to realize their potential and achieve academic success. Join Rendón for a presentation about her recent work and reflections on equity and access in higher education and lifelong learning. The keynote presentation will be followed by a Q-and-A conversation, and book sales, signing and photo op at UC San Diego’s The Jeannie Auditorium.
Beyond her scholarship, Rendón is a passionate speaker, mentor, and changemaker whose insights challenge us to rethink how we engage with students and build more inclusive learning environments. Her work reminds us that education is not just about knowledge—it’s about empowerment, belonging, and the belief that every student has the ability to thrive when given the right support.
