About this Event
Join Casey Trees and the Langdon Park Forest Stewards as we continue our work at Langdon Park to conserve the forest patch and care for young trees!
Help clip back invasive species, remove vines, and protect young trees within the forest patch. You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to remove invasives and care for trees. Participants will receive a short, hands-on training. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will split up into groups and begin working throughout the forest patch.
Register now! We will send a logistics and directions email before the event with detailed information about how to get to the site. You will receive this email ONLY if you are signed up for this event.
Please note that we will be meeting behind the Langdon Pool near the forested area.
Who should attend?
Anyone! Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us and on-site training will be provided.
Requirements
Register: Register in advance. Space is limited. If your plans change prior to the event, please update your registration status so we are sure to have the necessary number of volunteers.
Waiver: All volunteers must pre-register and sign a completed volunteer waiver form BEFORE participating in the event. The waiver is attached through registering for this event through the Eventbrite.
Youth Volunteers: Youth volunteers may attend our events with a parent or guardian.
Clothes and shoes: Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. We recommend long pants and other protections for sun, bugs, and poison ivy. Please wear closed-toed shoes, boots are preferred over sneakers.
Skills: No specific skills or tools required. Each event starts with a tool safety and planting demonstration. Volunteers work alongside experienced Forest Stewards and staff.
Arrival: Please arrive on time. We will meet behind the Langdon Pool. Check-in opens at 8:30am and volunteers must be present for the tool safety demonstration at the start of the event.
Water: Bring a full water bottle! Additional water will be available if needed.
Food: No food will be provided on site, please pack in any food you would like to eat during the event.
Animals: No animals are allowed into the event, except for service animals.
Getting There
Public Transportation: The closest bus stops are served by the C71, C63, P40, P10,P1X, and D32 bus lines. The closest Metro station is Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood is about a mile walk away.
Parking: There is a small parking lot on-site and street parking available nearby.
Bikes: Bikes can be locked to nearby signs. There is a Capital Bikeshare station at 18th St. and Rhode Island Ave.
