About this Event
The Community Connects series strengthens the links between members of the diverse multi-disciplinary Brampton creative community while fostering communal learning and knowledge sharing as well as developing individual members' facilitation skills. We are empowering Brampton artists and creatives to craft programming specifically for our community.
In collaboration with Doggpound and Kaizen Dance Initiative join Faith Sodipo, Martin "Prempz" Prempeh and Kwasi Obeng-Adjei for a free African Dance workshops for youth and adults.
You will learn from knowledgeable and working professional instructors various African dance forms including the style of Azonto, Pantsula, Naija Fusion, Afrofusion, and Traditional West African.
The purpose of this project is to push the African narrative in the Peel region, creating opportunities for people whether young or old, beginners and or experience to learn and grow in the art form. Come and join Bramptons dance community!
Class 1: Naija (Nigerian) Fusion
Class 2: Azonto (dance and musical genre from Ghana)
Accessibility: If you need assistance or support to participate such as an ASL interpreter, please get in touch with us at [email protected] as soon as possible (minimum of three days in advance) so that we can make the necessary accommodations.
Transportation: We can provide all-ages Brampton Transit Tickets free of charge to those who need them for all BAO in-person events. If you would like to pick up a ticket for yourself and others attending with you, please email [email protected] prior to the event and we will have them available for you onsite. Tickets work for both Brampton Transit and Züm buses.
WORKSHOP PRESENTERS:
Faith Sodipo aka @Yhemyzy_ is a Nigerian born artist and has been active in the entertainment industry as a dancer, performer and teacher for 7+ years. She has worked with A-list stars that include Seyi Shay, Joeboy, Cardi B and many more.Faith is Presently teaching at DanceklifeX in Toronto as an afro dance instructor
Born in Kumasi, Ghana, Martin "Prempz" Prempeh is Toronto’s most notable dancer and choreographer. Dancing is something he lives, breathes and loves to do and has high hopes in becoming more successful. With the ability to move his waist in different directions and his non-stop flips, he never fails to grasp an audience's attention.
Kwasi Obeng-Adjei is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, emerging choreographer and dance educator based in Brampton Ontario. Acceptance into the regional arts program at St Roch Catholic Secondary School is where he began his journey and developed his foundation. Training with Leading Artistic directors and choreographers that include the likes of Esie Mensah, and Lua Shayenne to name a few, have led to opportunity that include Pan-American Games, Kira, The Path | La Voie, The Raptors half-time show, Zayo and more. Kwasi believes dance is a spiritual experience that involves connecting all that are among us.
