Community leaders, elected officials, non-profit leaders, city officials, and community and economic developers in Northwest Arkansas are invited to the Community Building Summit, a free, one-day community development training event! The event is free to attend, but registration is required.
The Summit will explore tools and resources to build community, foster inclusion, develop stronger teams that focus on strengths and assets, and learn how we can become better leaders.
The morning session (9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) will include a conversation with Charlotte Strickland of Strickly Speaking about Community Building. As a leader in your organization, you are afforded the opportunity to build community and promote inclusion. Just what is inclusion? It is an environment where people:
- Feel valued and respected,
- Have access to opportunities and resources, and
- Can contribute their perspectives and talents to improve their communities, organizations, and workplace.
The Community Building seminar provides information on the importance of self-awareness (Identity), one’s lens (biases), and how these two areas affect overall behavior. Participants will complete several exercises and work in small groups to interpret the content and discuss its meaning for themselves and the community in which they serve. We then will progress to the importance of inclusive dialogue and review steps to open up conversations, thus increasing understanding and connection.
Practical tools will be provided for participants to utilize as they apply the content in everyday life! Get ready to learn about yourself and others!
The afternoon session (12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.) will feature a CliftonStrengths presentation from Dr. Steven Shook of ShakeItUp Consulting, LLC. During this session, participants will discover and leverage their unique talents. This interactive workshop is designed to help individuals and teams identify their top strengths using the CliftonStrengths assessment, and then harness these strengths to enhance performance, productivity, and engagement. Participants will gain deep insights into their personal strengths, learn strategies to develop them further, and understand how to apply them in their professional roles. Through a combination of expert guidance, practical exercises, and group discussions, this class empowers participants to build on natural abilities, foster stronger team dynamics, and achieve greater success in their careers and organizational objectives.
This event is hosted in partnership with the University of Central Arkansas Center for Community and Economic Development, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Research & Extension, and Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District. This event is made possible through the Community Development Pipeline program, funded by the Walton Family Foundation.
