We will gather at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito for an afternoon of celebration for the work we have accomplished together. Mingle with community members and hear from TMMC's Kathi George, Director of Cetacean Conservation Biology, for a lively, solutions-focused conversation about local whales, the risks they face, and the collaborative efforts underway to protect them. Light food and refreshments will be served. Donations are appreciated.
You’ll also see selected artworks from Firuze Gokce’s (Our Board member) latest Artshow “Whale Sounds on a Canvas II”
BIO - Kathi George
Kathi George serves as Director of Cetacean Conservation Biology at The Marine Mammal Center, where she leads field research, conservation initiatives and policy-impact efforts on behalf of large whales.
Since joining in 2019, she has dramatically expanded advocacy around two of the greatest threats facing large whales globally: entanglement in fishing gear, and vessel strikes. She holds the Conservation seat on the advisory council for the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, serves on the international Vessel Strike Expert Work Group of the International Whaling Commission, and chairs a work group of the San Francisco Harbor Safety Committee focused on reducing whale-vessel risk in and around San Francisco Bay.
Her career began as a volunteer rescuing sea-lions and removing entanglements; she co-founded the nonprofit California Whale Rescue dedicated to entangled whale response and prevention, and has participated in multiple large-whale disentanglement operations. Her bridging of marine science, policy and real-time field action makes her a highly respected voice in cetacean conservation.
