About this Event

University Centre Peterborough and Islah Community are thrilled to invite you to the Social Research in Peterborough Conference! Join us for a day filled with insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and engaging presentations. This in-person event is a fantastic chance to connect with fellow researchers and community members passionate about making a difference. We look forward to seeing you there!
The purpose of the research conference is to gain an insight into current research undertaken in Peterborough by academic researchers and/or community organisations; to provide a platform for local researchers to share their research outcomes; to understand how research impacts communities and organisations in Peterborough and to explore how research can shape the future of Peterborough, its organisations, and communities.
The one-day ISLAH/UCP conference will feature keynote speaker Sughra Ahmed. Sughra is a forward-thinking, creative and impact driven professional with 20+ years of experience working deeply with communities, government, academic institutions, profit and non-profit companies.
Previously, as the Associate Dean at Stanford University, Sughra's collaborative and inclusive approach in moving through institutional challenges and guiding students to find and follow their purpose, was highly successful in impacting campus culture. Prior to Stanford, she was a Yale Greenberg World Fellow – a highly competitive programme for rising global leaders.
Sughra worked at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights UK as Director of Education, specialising in human rights education, curriculum design, leadership development and engaging in related issues stemming from inequalities, racism and injustice in the UK and around the world. Today, as Managing Director of Peterborough Cultural Alliance she leads the strategic development, growth and delivery of this important voice and champion for culture across the city. Sughra is keen to build a more confident, inclusive and thriving cultural scene that has a great reputation both within Peterborough and across the country.

We would be honoured if you would like to share any data you have collected/research conducted about Peterborough during a 10-minute panel presentation. Alternatively, you could just attend the conference and learn about the research taking place in Peterborough and/or participate in discussions.

During the day you will have the opportunity to attend a series of panels to discover what projects are being undertaken by communities and researchers in Peterborough and explore questions such as:

What research is being undertaken in Peterborough?

What does good quality research look like?

What impact is research having on our communities?

What can research do to improve social outcomes in Peterborough? How can research improve access to opportunities in Peterborough? What are the challenges in undertaking research in the field?

Is there an accessible platform for Peterborough research, and who is listening?
