Commotion Dance Theater interweaves magic, mayhem, and mystery in new works presented at MuCCC, May 9 – 11 at 8 pm. Tickets are $12 in advance at www.muccc.org, $15 at the door, and $10 for students and seniors. The performance will include new dance theater pieces by Laurie MacFarlane and Ruben T. Ornelas, inspired by folk and fairy tales, contemporary poetry, and the pure joy of dance. The works seamlessly blend text, music, movement and the visual arts to create a unique theatrical experience.
Ornelas will reprise his solo, “Mexican-American Purgatory,” which explores the absurdities of a life lived betwixt and between cultures. He will also offer a new trio, “Études.” MacFarlane will present “Bella and the Witch,” a new piece inspired by the folktales of Baba Yaga and Vasilisa, with props by visual artist Martha Schermerhorn.
Performers include Marissa Engel, Nanako Horikawa Mandrino, Angela Lopez, John McDairmant, Alaina Olivieri, and Ruben T. Ornelas.

Offering “a light-hearted performance that required zero effort to enjoy" and “a very different type of dance performance,” (City Newspaper), Commotion Dance Theater specializes in multi-disciplinary, movement-based works. Under the direction of long-time creative partners Laurie MacFarlane and Ruben T. Ornelas, Commotion has appeared numerous times in the Rochester Fringe Festival, at Writers and Books, at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum in Buffalo and most recently at the Grand Re-Opening of the Avon Opera House.
