About this Event
Common Sense Training
Every few years there is a new three-letter course that tries to sell you on some magic system. Even though thousands of people pour into these courses, there's a shortage of practitioners who can actually coach on the floor. Ironically, this is your MAIN job!
Let's be honest. There is almost nothing that is new. Any 'new' program is likely based on old information with shiny, new packaging. The human brain loves novelty. Rather than chase another fad, let's master the foundations of sport science.
To be a successful coach, you need to understand the why behind the what. Understanding how the brain programs movement, how expectation can influence pain, which methods induce certain adaptations, and how the systems all interact, will allow you to become a well-rounded coach who can problem solve.
The best coaches I've ever met have two main things in common:
- Endless curiosity and willingness to learn.
- A mastery of the basics.
This course will focus heavily on those two principles, which will undoubtedly make you a better thinker and practitioner.
Outline:
- Lecture portion with real-world, fundamental training essentials that won’t bore you to death.
- The big rocks that your clients must address to optimize their health.
- The process of exercise selection – what to choose, how to progress it, and when to change.
- How I'm using isometrics, slow/fast eccentrics, EQI's, and more for performance and rehabilitation.
- How to coach and structure the training of speed and aerobic development. From medball throws, to plyometrics, to weight training.
- How to use your warm-up as an “assessment."
- Lastly, I will challenge your bias and ask you to think critically! This will be the fun part.
