Join us this Saturday, 6th December, 10 am - 12 pm, for a workshop led by Alia Gargum.
Alia will introduce her practice and share details of the sculpture she is creating for the Common Ground garden.
Funded by the Henry Moore Foundation Winter Grant 2025, Alia’s sculpture, titled What I Remember About Libya, invites reflection on nationality, displacement, and life under authoritarian rule. The sculpture offers a visual and emotional space for dialogue among local, migrant, and diaspora communities. It will be designed to frame its surroundings and will prompt viewers to consider how identity is shaped by place, memory, and movement.
Alia will invite attendees to think through the design of our micro-farm in relation to the sculpture, which will form a poignant centre point for the space. We’ll discuss the artwork and explore designs and creative ideas to complement the sculpture and benefit the garden. Younger attendees will be able to create their own ideas for a sculpture using modelling clay.
