Since his immersive studies with Commedia dell' Arte Master Antonio Fava in 2013, Andrew Crupi has spent a decade dazzling audiences and students with his expertise. He’s earned rave reviews at festivals and enchanted schools across Australia, Italy, Portugal, and The Netherlands. But here’s the twist: Crupi has never offered an open-access workshop in Australia—until now! Fresh off further studies in Italy, he's bringing his expertise back to Adelaide, ready to unpack his suitcase of masks and share the magic of Commedia with local actors, performers, and drama teachers.
The workshop unfolds over two exciting 4-hour sessions at ActNow Theatre on located on Gouger Street in Adelaide, South Australia.
In this immersive workshop, you'll explore the four key aspects of Commedia dell' Arte, including its traditional masks, iconic stock characters, use of improvisation, and multilingual origins. Prepare to unleash your creativity, make bold choices, and discover your authentic stage presence through play and invention. The adventure culminates in a lively group performance, showcasing everything you’ve learned.
Saturday October 5th from 3.30pm to 7.30pm -Delve into the rich history, physicality, and psychology of Commedia's beloved stock characters.
Sunday October 6th from 5.30 to 9.30 - Immerse yourself in comedy routines, traditional masks, and character improvisations. At 8:30 pm, you’ll take the stage to perform a short group play, "Canovaccio," putting your newfound skills to the test.
No professional acting experience required—just bring a spirit of adventure and a willingness to move. While some theatrical background is recommended, this workshop is open to anyone eager to explore the playful and physically demanding world of Commedia dell' Arte.
